Did you know a good bourbon can have the flavor depth of fine wine and a quality bourbon can have hundreds of individual flavor elements? If you’ve ever read bourbon tasting notes and thought, ‘I wish I could taste all those flavors in bourbon,’ then this is the event for you!
Professional bourbon educator Tim Knittel is coming back to Somerset Mellow Mushroom on March 27th for a guided bourbon palate training experience. By utilizing proper nosing and tasting techniques and pairing a variety of bourbons with select food elements, you’ll develop your ‘palate memory’ and learn to pull out the nuanced flavors of fine bourbons. Each of the five categories of bourbon flavor – sweet, tree, grain, botanical and spice – will be individually explored then your new bourbon tastebuds will be put to the test with a ‘complex and balanced’ bourbon at the end of the training.

Tim Knittel is a ten-year bourbon industry veteran with a specialty in bourbon education, experience design and event management. He is certified as an Executive Bourbon Steward through the Stave & Thief Society, is Adjunct Professor of Bourbon Studies at Midway University and owns Distilled Living, a specialty bourbon education and industry consulting company based out of Lexington, KY.
