First Release “Starting Gate” four grain single barrel selected from the personal collection of Tim Knittel, the Official Bourbon Ambassador of Churchill Downs

Derby City Gaming and Hotel at 4520 Poplar Level Road, Louisville, KY 40213 proudly announces the release of the first expression in their “Thoroughbred Collection” series of limited edition, unique Bourbons. 

The “Thoroughbred Collection” is inspired by the two signature industries of Kentucky, horse racing and Bourbon whiskey, which are both embodied and celebrated at Derby City Gaming and Hotel. 

The inaugural release, named “Starting Gate,” is a meticulously crafted four-grain, pot still, single-barrel Kentucky Bourbon aged for 6 ½ years, and was handpicked from the private barrel collection of Tim Knittel, the Official Bourbon Ambassador of Churchill Downs. This exceptional Bourbon is characterized by its rich complexity and unexpected smoothness, and is bottled at barrel strength.

“Starting Gate” has a limited release of only 168 bottles priced at $200 each and available exclusively at Derby City Gaming & Hotel.

“Because of my unique position in the Kentucky Bourbon industry, I’m often offered exclusive access to rare and unusual single barrels. I’m excited to be able to offer one of them as the ‘Thoroughbred Collection’ inaugural release,” said Knittel. “This is one of the most exceptional barrels with the most unique backstory in my collection. Bourbon enthusiasts will never see another release quite like this one.”

Thursday, May 2, 3pm-8pm
& Sunday, May 5, 9am-12pm 

Additionally anytime after 5PM on Thurby 2024, bottles can be purchased by going to Derby City Gaming’s restaurant, Oliver’s Chop House & Bourbon Bar, & asking any bartender, server, or manager.  Bottle pick-up at the restaurant include the hours of Wednesday through Sunday from 5PM to 9PM.
